Nate Diaz feels that people are trying to take something away from his win at UFC 196.
The win over Conor McGregor at UFC 196 might have been the biggest in Nate Diaz‘ long career, but the Stockton-based fighter feels that he doesn’t get the credit he deserves for it.
The reason behind this is that the featherweight champion, despite his loss, received lots of respect after the fight for moving up two weight divisions to fight Diaz at 170 pounds. Diaz, a natural 155-pound fighter, is tired that people tend to talk about McGregor moving up, rather than him winning the fight.
“Yeah, it does bother me,” Diaz said during ESPN’s SportsNation. “He was already talking about going up and fighting the welterweight champ and taking him out and even fighting at 185 and all these things. When he lost the fight, he’s getting all this credit for going up two weight classes. But I’m really only one weight class above him. I’m a lightweight.
“I’m only one class ahead of him. He’s moving up and he already talked about being the welterweight champ. Now he fought a lightweight contender and he’s talking he went up two weight classes.”
Diaz stepped in as a late replacement for lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 and defeated McGregor via rear-naked choke in the second round. A rematch, also at welterweight, is expected to be announced for UFC 200 soon.
