Francis Ngannou states his case for a second crack at the UFC heavyweight title.
Heavy-hitting knockout artist Francis Ngannou is undoubtedly deserving of the next heavyweight title shot against the winner of the upcoming championship rematch between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic at UFC 241.
The Cameroonian fan favorite has won three straight fights since his title loss to Miocic and subsequent unanimous decision loss to Derrick Lewis, earning knockout wins over Curtis Blaydes and former champions Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.
Despite his impressive three-fight win streak, however, the UFC hasn’t confirmed that ‘The Predator’ will fight the winner of Cormier vs. Miocic II, but Ngannou feels ‘it’s obvious’ that he’s next.
“No, no one has confirmed that,” Ngannou told MMA Fighting when asked if the UFC had confirmed his title shot. “But, I think it’s just obvious. I think it’s just something that’s gonna happen, because what would happen next? What’s left? Maybe if Stipe wins they will attempt a third fight with both, which still doesn’t make sense. I’m here waiting for the title.”
When asked if he would wait for the title shot if the UFC booked an instant trilogy bout between Miocic and Cormier, Ngannou entertained the idea but said he would wait to see how things played out.
“I mean, I have my time, I’m in the line. I’m legit, so I could wait. Let’s see how this plays out and we will see what happens, but I’m waiting for the title shot.”
As of now, Ngannou is ranked as the #2 heavyweight contender in the world, just one spot behind former heavyweight champ Miocic, who is scheduled to take on ‘DC’ in next month’s highly anticipated UFC 241 main event.
UFC 241: Cormier vs. Miocic II takes place next month, August 17 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
