GSP wasn’t the only fighter on hand in Montreal for the Team USA vs. Team Canada game — three fights broke out in 9 seconds!
Georges St-Pierre was on hand to introduce Team Canada during their Saturday night 4 Nations game against Team USA, and he may have fired the Canadians up a little too much. The match kicked off with a wild three fist fights in nine seconds.
The NHL 4 Nations Face-Off is a friendly tournament between Canada, USA, Finland, and Sweden … but it wasn’t very friendly between Canada and USA in Montreal last night. The typically polite Canucks have been pretty peeved at their southern neighbors since President Trump threatened to start a trade war and annex their nation, and it showed during the game.
For his part, Georges St- Pierre was all class as he welcomed Team Canada onto the ice.

“Everyone, make some noise for my team and your team, Team Canada” St-Pierre roared in French as the crowd chanted “GSP! GSP!”
Those chants turned to boos as the American national anthem played, a regular occurrence over the last two weeks at Canadian sporting events. And then Matthew Tkachuk and Brandon Hagel dropped gloves the second the puck dropped to start the game.

The second faceoff resulted in an immediate scrap between Brady Tkachuk and Sam Bennett.

The game managed to get played for five whole seconds before J.T. Miller and Colton Parayko got into it.

For those unfamiliar with the NHL and why they just let fights happen, all we can say is Tito Ortiz’s “If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying” maxim applies in hockey as well as MMA. But if you cheat too much or play too dirty in hockey, the meanest player on the other team will beat the dog s—t out of you.
Both players involved in a fight get put in the penalty box for five minute, but here’s the funny thing: there’s no two minute minor penalty leaving one team short handed. Which means the penalty for fighting is kinda less serious than a penalty for, say, slashing or tripping.
The fighting portion of the game ended 1-1 with a draw in the third fight. The actual hockey part ended 3-1 for Team America, but Team Canada can earn a chance for a rematch in the finals if they beat Team Finland on Monday.
Here’s hoping the nations of Canada and America can get along and take a page out of Georges St-Pierre’s book. We aren’t enemies. The real enemies are the fifth dimensional aliens from beyond the veil that used to come and teleport Georges through time.
