A reported rubber match between Strikeforce middleweight fighters Jason “Mayhem” Miller (24-7) and Tim Kennedy (12-3) will not take place on the upcoming Jan. 29 Strikeforce event.
Sherdog.com confirmed the news that the bout has become “unlikely” and was unsure if either fighter would still participate at the event or not.
Both fighters have met twice over their careers with each man earning a victory over the other. Kennedy won their first meeting back in February of 2003, earning a unanimous decision at an Extreme Challenge 50 event. With Miller winning the rematch by the same result in December of 2007 at an HDNet Fights: Reckless Abandon show.
Miller’s running dispute with Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz has come to no results as both men continue to argue over a weight limit for their fight. As of this morning Diaz has been reportedly scheduled to defend his title against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos. Miller has won two in a row earning wins over Kazushi Sakuraba at DREAM.16 in September and a TKO win over Tim Stout in April at the Strikeforce: Nashville show.
Kennedy faced Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in his last bout, losing a unanimous decision for the vacant Strikeforce middleweight title in August. The loss ended a four fight win streak for the fighter which included wins over Trevor Prangley, Zak Cummings, Nick Thompson, and Elias Rivera.
