Checkmate, beltists.
UFC 310 on December 7th is a sneaky good card despite the lack of a well known champion anchoring the card. But those who know, know that Kai Asakura is one of the most entertaining flyweights in the world, and 125 pound champ Alexandre Pantoja isn’t the sort to deny a scrap.
The rest of the fights on the pay-per-view card are solid as well, with the exception of Bryce Mitchell and Kron Gracie. We’ve discussed our opinion on that fight getting PPV treatment. Is it because the two are fighting for the informal DMF belt, which goes to the best fighter who believes the earth is flat? Maybe. Or maybe it’s because Mitchell is such an endless source of entertainment. You really never know what’s going to come out of his mouth next.
For example, during UFC 310 media day “Thug Nasty” revealed he doesn’t believe in seat belts.
“I just don’t believe in em, it’s not up to the government to decide if I should wear a seat belt”

Okay, he believes they exist, as in they aren’t a hallucination generated by the devil. But he doesn’t believe in wearing them.
“Seatbelts, I think you [should] get to choose if you want to wear a seatbelts,” Mitchell declared. “The government, they don’t wipe my ass for me and they shouldn’t be able to tell me if I want to wear a seatbelt.”
New York was the first state to make wearing seatbelts mandatory in 1984, with a bunch of other states following over the next decade. At this point only New Hampshire is left as a seatbelt-optional state.
“I personally don’t like them because I think, what if you’ve got to jump out of the car and roll, duck and roll,” Bryce continued. “Nobody ever thinks about that.”
Now we’re starting to understand the mindset of a man who managed to rip his nutsack open with a power drill.
To be fair, we don’t know the stats on how often being able to duck and roll from your car would save you from death. But we do know the stats on how seatbelts save the lives of those who wear them — and the lives of people in the other car when they’re not hit by a meat-missile named Bryce flying through their windshield.
“So I don’t personally wear a seatbelt, but I grew up – my mom never wore one – I just don’t believe in ‘em,” Mitchell concluded. “And it’s not up to the government to decide whether I wear a seatbelt or not. That’s just my view on it, it’s why I don’t wear them. But I strap my baby in. I strap Tucker in. But I just don’t like wearing them. I like maneuverability.”
In his UFC 310 bout against Kron Gracie, Mitchell is looking to bounce back from a 1-2 skid that included two violent losses to Ilia Topuria and Josh Emmett. But, rest assured, he was already this dumb before the blows he took to the head in those fights.
