No more Fight Pass: Conor McGregor’s next fight is likely to be held in Las Vegas

The next time the Conor McGregor Show takes center stage, it won’t be seen on Fight Pass.

McGregor delivered Saturday in the main event of what was a major event in his homeland of the Republic of Ireland, defeating Diego Brandao via first-round TKO in front of a wild crowd at Dublin’s O2 Arena.

But with the fight airing in North America on Fight Pass, the impact of the electric event wasn’t quite what it could have been.

Next time around, however, the fighter known as “Notorious” will likely earn his notoriety in the world’s fight capital.

“It doesn’t matter where he’s from, he could fight anywhere in the world,” UFC president Dana White said at the postfight press conference. “Conor’s next fight is definitely not going to be in Ireland and probably not in Europe. He’s probably going to fight in Vegas.”

For his part, McGregor said he would welcome a slot at UFC 178 in Las Vegas in September. He’d also be fine with fighting Dustin Poirier, who has taken potshots at McGregor on Twitter.

But McGregor also feels that neither Poirier nor Nik Lentz want to fight him.

“That would be perfect for me, because I already know that guy doesn’t want to fight me,” McGregor said. “His teammate Cole Miller, they’re from the same camp, pulled out of the same fight. He was supposed to be here, he was scheduled to compete tonight. He pulled out.”

McGregor was just getting warmed up. “You’re trying to tell me Dustin Poirier, top 10 guy, and Nik Lentz, top 10 guy, both of whom had no fights scheduled, didn’t know about Cole’s injury? He would have known before the UFC would have known.  They would have heard about it before the UFC would have heard. And yet nothing. This is a main-event slot. One of the fastest-selling. It was a big, big event. And yet not a peep out of either of them. I know he doesn’t want to fight, he can pretend that he wants to fight, and send out little tweets about this and that. Let’s do it. One by one I want to take everyone else. If that’s Dustin, no problem.”

Meanwhile, White tamped down talk of McGregor fighting in a soccer stadium in Ireland, pointing out the Emerald Island’s notoriously poor weather as a factor. “This isn’t Abu Dhabi,” White said.
