Crazy talk! Next thing you know they’ll be calling for a Urijah Faber title shot! Oh wait…
You know that song “It’s A Madhouse” by Anthrax? This post has absolutely nothing to do with that, but you should go listen to it, because it holds up pretty well for a Metal track released over 30 years ago.
The hair … not so much.
While we’re on the topic of houses gone mad, UFC welterweight contender, Leon Edwards, is aghast at the recent title talk involving Jorge Masvidal, who rocked and socked his way to No. 3 in the division rankings by planishing Ben Askren.
Not bad for an inconsistent fighter on the verge of getting cut.
“It’s madness, really. I don’t know where all of this title talk is coming from,” Edwards told MMA Fighting. “Just two fights ago he was on a two-fight losing streak, he was probably gonna get cut from the UFC. I think the title talk is nonsense. It’s madness, but fuck it, it is what it is. Bring him over to Texas and we can get it straight after the fight. We need to fight.”
Masvidal is 6-4 over his last 10, compared to 9-1 for Edwards, and yet “Rocky” — winner of seven straight — is not even ranked in the Top 10. Probably because “Gamebred” has fought much stiffer competition and scored five violent finishes during that span.
Compounding the problem is the log jam we have at 170 pounds, with No. 2-ranked Colby Covington at the top of the heap and current champion, Kamaru Usman, riding the pine due to injury. Former champion Tyron Woodley is also shoehorned in there at No. 1.
If Edwards want to be taken seriously as a title contender, then he’ll need to make a statement against longtime veteran, Rafael dos Anjos, at the UFC San Antonio event this weekend on ESPN.
