Nurma Dumont’s latest weight miss gets her fight with Erin Blanchfield canclled.
Bantamweight is clearly not for Norma Dumont.
The Brazilian badly missed weight for the second time in a row, except this time she’s gotten her fight cancelled. As she did for her November win versus Ashlee Evans-Smith, Dumont weighed in at 139.5 lbs against Erin Blanchfield.
UFC officials confirmed at Friday’s weigh-in that “due to weight management issues,” Dumont has been pulled from the Blanchfield matchup. Blanchfield made weight and ideally she gets compensated even though she won’t be competing tomorrow afternoon.
Dumont debuted in the UFC at featherweight against Megan Anderson in February of last year, losing by first-round KO. Obviously the subsequent attempts to go to bantamweight have gone poorly and it leaves her spot on the roster in a precarious position due to not being able to make 135 and the paucity of fighters at 145.
UFC VEGAS 23 started the week with 15 fights but has been reduced to 13 as a result of this cancellation and the postponement of Kyle Daukaus vs. Aliaskhab Khizriev due to COVID-19 protocols. The main event will feature middleweight contender Marvin Vettori against Kevin Holland, with the main card simulcast on ABC and ESPN+ at a special time of 3 PM ET/12 PM PT.
