Amanda Nunes hopes she can get a title shot following her UFC 196 win over Valetina Shevchenko, but Dana White already promised Miesha Tate would fight Ronda Rousey for a third time.
There is a new champion in the female bantamweight division, and Amanda Nunes feels like she has earned the right to challenger for Miesha Tate’s newly conquered belt. Fresh off a unanimous decision win over Valentina Shevchenko, Nunes believes her time has come to fight for the title.
Even though Dana White already stated Ronda Rousey would make a trilogy bout with Tate next.
“I don’t think there should be a rematch. The weight class could use something new,” Nunes told Combate. “I hope I’m next so we can shake things up a little so people can value the sport more.”
“Sometimes they focus too much on one person. It was Ronda, Ronda, Ronda. Then Holly, Holly, Holly. Now there’s Miesha. I hope someone else comes along. I hope I get an opportunity.”
Before her victory against Shevchenko at UFC 196, Amanda Nunes also defeated Sara McMann by rear naked choke and Shayna Baszler by TKO. Apart from Shevchenko, all of her UFC wins have come inside of the first round.
