Tyson Fury fights in his 2nd big mismatch of 2019, as he is the prohibitive favorite over Otto Wallin.
Saturday night, live on ESPN+ is the latest Top Rank show, this time featuring lineal Heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury as he takes on challenger Otto Wallin. Here are the fight day odds, courtesy of OddsShark:
Tyson Fury -3000
Otto Wallin +1100
Those are seriously wide odds, and that’s not a surprise at all. Fury is undefeated, he’s the man who toppled Klitschko, the man who survived Deontay Wilder’s power, and, for my money, the best Heavyweight in the sport today. Wallin is a guy making a massive step up who hasn’t won a fight in 17 months. Honestly, there’s nothing more to say about these odds. Fury all day, clearly.
Perhaps the real story here is that this fight doesn’t seem to be catching fire. There are some reports that have ticket sales quite low (granted, most of those reports are quoting promoter Eddie Hearn, so…). As of today, fight day, you can get plenty of pretty good seats both from StubHub, and direct from the arena.
Much of Heavyweight boxing this year has been defined by the top Heavyweights avoiding each other – though Andy Ruiz’s shocking upset of Anthony Joshua did mix things up considerably. But we’ve seen Fury vs. Schwarz, Wilder vs. Breazeale, Joshua vs. Ruiz… not fights people were excited about before they happened. Fury vs. Wallin is another in that line. If all goes according to plan, we will see both Joshua vs. Ruiz II and Fury vs. Wilder II soon, and that will certainly be a help. But for now, we’re stuck biding our time with another mismatch. Enjoy.
Top Rank on ESPN+ Fury vs. Wallin airs tonight, Saturday, September 14, with a fight time of 11:00 p.m. ET. We will have live coverage here at Bloody Elbow.
