Volkan Oezdemir has been forced out of his fight with Nikita Krylov on “Fight Island.”

A knee injury has forced Volkan Oezdemir out of his light heavyweight fight with Nikita Krylov at a UFC Fight Night event October 17th.

RT Sport first announced the news. Oezdemir and Krylov were scheduled to meet in the co-main event of the UFC Card on October 17th. It’s unclear whether the UFC will pull Krylov from the “Fight Island” card entirely or the promotion will seek a replacement for Oezdemir.

The Swiss light heavyweight contender took to Instagram to address the injury that forced him out of the fight.

“I’m devastated,” The former title challenger Oezdemir wrote. “I won’t be able to fight due to a knee injury. I apologize to Dana White, the UFC, Mick Maynard], my opponent [Nikita Krylov] and all the fans. I’ll rest and work on my fastest recovery possible to be back in that octagon ASAP.”

Oezdemir was supposed to be making his second appearance in the Octagon this year against Krylov after losing by KO to newcomer Jiri Prochazka earlier this year. Meanwhile Krylov fought at UFC Brasilia in March, winning a decision versus Johnny Walker.

The UFC event on October 17th, which takes place on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, is expected to be headlined by a featherweight fight between Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung, aka The Korean Zombie.
