Fresh off his win at UFC Brasilia, Charles Oliveira would fight Conor McGregor at any weight class.
After extending his unbeaten run to seven this past weekend at UFC Brasilia against Kevin Lee, Charles Oliveira says he would fight Conor McGregor at any weight class.
Oliveira (29-8, 1NC) picked up his fifteenth UFC submission win against Lee in the main event of UFC Brasilia, winning by guillotine choke in the third round. It’s the Brazilian’s seventh consecutive finish in the UFC. Talking at a post-fight scrum after his recent fight, Oliveira said although he is ready to fight for the lightweight title now, he thinks it will take him more win to get there.
“I’m ready to fight for it now,” Oliveira said. “There’s not much I can say, I don’t leave it in the hands of the judges. I knock out or I submit. It’s my time. It’s a new history. It’s a new Charles. (Transcription via MMA Fighting)
“I think I’ll have another fight before the belt,” he later added. “Ferguson’s fighting Khabib, so that’s gonna happen soon and I’m gonna end up having another fight before. They’re not gonna give me that fight right away, I hope to fight a top-5, but my coaches will decide that.”
One man that Oliveira said he would be open to fighting at either lightweight or welterweight is McGregor. The former lightweight and featherweight champ returned to the Octagon for the first time in over a year this January, when he knocked out Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds. “Do Bronx” is a fan of the matchup with McGregor.
“I would fight McGregor in any weight, no problem,” Oliveira said. “It would be a good fight, I’d really like to fight him. It could be at 155 or 170, it doesn’t matter.”
