Sean O’Malley responds to Paddy Pimblett’s criticism of his grappling.
UFC newcomer and self-proclaimed ‘cash cow’ Paddy Pimblett thinks ‘pothead’ Sean O’Malley is going to be exposed to the moment he comes up against a decent grappler.
“The amount of people that have tweeted me or Insta’d me over the past month or two saying, ‘Fight Sean O’Malley,’ I’m like, ‘Lad, he’s well lighter than me…’ But he’s a bit of a bitch-ass, isn’t he? Breaks his ankle and blames his loss on that. He’s a little pothead, so hats off to him,” Pimblett, who won his UFC debut against Luigi Vendramini via first-round KO, said of O’Malley in a recent interview with MMA On Point (h/t Low Kick MMA).
“He’s got clean strikes. He’s got good standup. But as soon as he gets put in there with a decent grappler, he’s gonna get beat.”
O’Malley soon got word of Pimblett’s comments and said the former Cage Warriors featherweight champ is just looking for some free publicity by mentioning his name in the press.
O’Malley also can’t understand Pimblett’s harsh critique of his grappling. Just ‘because I’m a good striker,’ says O’Malley, doesn’t mean he’s a bad grappler.
“Yeah, I didn’t know he was talking shit about me. That’s not very nice,” O’Malley responded on his podcast. “Maybe he just knows that talk bad about me, it’s publicity. He said I had bad grappling. I wonder why people just assume I have bad grappling. So it’s just weird that some people just assume that because I’m a good striker I must be a bad grappler.”
‘Suga’ competes in the UFC bantamweight division whereas ‘The Baddy’ fights at lightweight, so don’t expect to see them clash in the octagon anytime soon.
