Sean O’ Malley is finally set to make his long-awaited return to action, as he has been booked to throw hands against Jose Quinonez at the upcoming UFC 247 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Feb. 8, 2020 in Houston, Texas.
The two men were originally slated to throw down at UFC 229 in October of 2018 before the fight was scrapped after Sean was flagged by United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) for testing positive for Ostarine.
After serving his six-month suspension due to a tainted supplement, O’Malley was then booked to face Marlon Vera at UFC 239 but was once again yanked from the fight after failing another USADA test, also for Ostarine. Fortunately for Sean, he was cleared of any wrong doing as it was deemed he still had trace amounts lingering from the original dosage.
At 10-0, “Sugar” came into the UFC with plenty of hype after earning his way via Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS). That said, he’s only been able to compete two times since 2017, defeating Terrion Ware and Andre Soukhamthath.
As for Quinonez, he is 5-1 over his last six UFC bouts, and was most recently seen taking out Carlos Huachin at UFC Fight Night 159 earlier this year. A win over Sean will be his biggest to date and help climb up the Bantamweight ladder.
UFC 247 will be headlined by A Light Heavyweight title fight as division champion, Jon Jones, defends his strap against Dominick Reyes. Also, UFC women’s Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko will defend her belt against Katlyn Chookagian, while Derrick Lewis and Ilir Latifi throw down in Heavyweight action.
