Mike Jackson is no longer employed by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) after just one fight inside the Octagon.
That’s according to his comments to MMA Fighting, revealing that the mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion relieved him of his duties a few weeks ago.
“I was released few weeks ago. I wish they would have done it sooner, or gave me the Artem [Lobov] fight. But I’m getting back to boxing next month.”
Jackson’s one and only bout inside the eight-walled cage came at UFC Fight Night 82 last February, losing to the fellow UFC newcomer Mickey Gall via first-round submission (recap here). With the impressive win, Gall earned himself a shot to welcome former WWE Superstar CM Punk to the Octagon later this year.
As for Jackson — who is also a combat sports journalist — the loss will send him back to the kickboxing arena, as well as the boxing ring, as he says he plans on fighting sometime in May.
