One FC announced it is set to return to Singapore with a clash between bantamweight titleholder Soo Chul Kim and interim champion Bibiano Fernandes as the main event on Oct. 18 in Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Kim won the inaugural One FC bantamweight championship with a TKO victory over Leandro Issa last October, improving his MMA record to 7-4. Fernandes enters the title bout riding a six-fight win streak, including victories for DREAM and One FC titles.
“That kid is tough, comes forward, and I anticipate a good fight,” Fernandes told MMAFighting.com. “He has a good striking game, I like his style. I fought so many good fighters, it’s just one more fight for me. I will get the win.”
Bibiano’s high level jiu-jitsu game should give him the edge on the ground, but he doesn’t focus on only one strategy.
“I train everything, I need to be ready for everything,” he explains. “I don’t like to have any weaknesses.”
Fernandes heard critics when he opted not to sign with the UFC in the past, and he’s in peace with his decision.
“People can say anything, but at the end of the day it’s between me and my family,” he said. “I can’t start (my career) all over again. I have fought a lot in my career, fought in jiu-jitsu for no money. But I didn’t need money at that time. I have family and kids now. Fighting in Asia, with 20,000 fans in the arena, is what I want now.”
