Fight fans rejoice, as a much-talked about showdown between top Featherweights, Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung, has been made official. Indeed, the promotion announced earlier today (Mon., Sept. 23) that the two men will headline the upcoming UFC Fight Night 165 event on December 21, 2019 inside Sajik Arena in Busan, South Korea.
The bout has been rumored for some time now, and was briefly linked to to be the headliner for this past Saturday’s (Sept. 21, 2019) UFC Fight Night 159 in Mexico City, Mexico, which was ultimately spearheaded by a 145-pound bout between Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez.
Which was over before it even began.
Ortega is looking to bounce back after coming up short in his bid to dethrone current UFC Featherweight champion, Max Holloway, last December at UFC 231 (highlights). Prior to the defeat, “T-City” had gone undefeated in his MMA career, racking up 14 wins, and one No Contest.
A win over Jung could be a nice momentum booster to speed his way back to a title fight.
“Korean Zombie” is looking to get back to the winner’s podium for the second straight time following his win over Renato Moicano. Prior to that, Jung suffered a devastating knockout los to the aforementioned Yair Rodriguez, losing by way of buzzer-beating knockout.
He bounced back nicely by eliminating Moicano in under a minute.
It’s an intriguing matchup on all fronts, especially since their skill sets seems so even, with both men showing to have both the knockout power and submission skills to end the fight any which way they please.
Early predictions?
Also on the card, Volkan Oezdemir will face off against Aleksandar Rakic in Light Heavyweight action, while Alexandre Pantoja vs. Matt Schnell collide in Flyweight action.
