Gabriel Benitez suffered a badly damaged shin during his Lightweight scrap against Omar Morales earlier tonight (Weds. May 13, 2020) at UFC Jacksonville, which took place inside VyStar Veterans Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
“Moggly’s” shin could be seen bleeding throughout the bout, but the extent of the injury was magnified post-fight after up-close camera shot showed a wide open gash that was so deep the bone could be seen.
Benitez took to Instagram after the bout to offer another close-up shot of the wound.
Despite the gruesome cut, Benitez powered through to finish the 15-minute war, though he ultimately came up short on the judges scorecards to lose a unanimous decision to the undefeated (10-0, 1-0 UFC) Morales.
That is now two straight defeats inside the Octagon for “Moggly,” bringing his overall UFC record to 5-4. Despite the setback, the Mexican-born combatant’s toughness to power through the pain cannot be denied.
