No. 6-ranked Alistair Overeem, now 40, will have to put his experience to good use against the No. 9-ranked Augusto Sakai, 11 years his junior.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to its APEX facility this Sat. night (Sept. 5, 2020) for UFC Vegas 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a heavyweight main event pitting longtime veteran Alistair Overeem opposite once-beaten bruiser Augusto Sakai.
Despite his longevity in mixed martial arts (MMA), which scored him championship titles in both DREAM and Strikeforce, “Demolition Man” is only slightly favored against his Brazilian foe, clocking in at -145 against +125 for this weekend’s action on ESPN+.
Overeem (46-18, 1 NC) is coming off a technical knockout win over Walt Harris at UFC on ESPN 8 back in May and has now captured three of his last four. As for Sakai (15-1-1), he’s the winner of six straight, which includes all four bouts under the UFC banner after graduating Dana White’s “Contender Series” in summer 2018.
