Hot off her submission win over Rachael Ostovich at UFC on ESPN+ 1 last month, Paige VanZant’s UFC return is set.
“PVZ” will take on Poliana Botelho at UFC 236 on pay-per-view (PPV), per a report from Combate. The show goes down on April 13, 2019 at a city and venue yet to be determined. It has already been reported that Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum will fight on the card for an interim 185-pound title.
VanZant snapped a two-fight losing streak against Ostovich in Brooklyn. She had previously been defeated by both Michelle Waterson and Jessica-Rose Clark. Her defeat to Clark was her debut at 125 pounds. Now, she hopes to put together her first win streak since 2015 against Botelho.
Botelho had a five-fight win streak stopped by Cynthia Calvillo in November. She was submitted in the first round by way of rear-naked choke on the Buenos Aires card. A victory over a name as notable as VanZant certainly isn’t a bad way to get back in the win column. In a thin flyweight division, every victory counts in regards to earning a title shot.
We’ll keep you updated as more fights continue to get added to UFC 236 and a venue and city are finally locked down.
