A pair of strawweight prospects are close to making their UFC debuts in Canada later this year.
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Paige VanZant vs. Kailin Curran (pictured) is in the works for UFC Fight Fight 54 Night in Halifax, N.S. Both fighters have agreed to the bout.
VanZant (3-1) was originally slated to be a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter 20, however, once the UFC realized she was just 20 years old they pulled her from the show. The age cutoff on TUF is 21. A member of Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, Calif., VanZant most recently defeated Courtney Himes in April 2013. Her lone loss was to Tecia Torres, one of the favorites to win the inaugural 115-pound UFC belt, in Jan. 2013.
A native of Ewa Beach, HI, Curran (3-0) is a member of the Reign Training Center in Lake Forest, Calif. All three of her wins have come via unanimous decision. The 23-year-old is the first female Hawaiian fighter to join the UFC.
UFN 54, headlined by Rory MacDonald vs. Tarec Saffiedine, will take place at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.
VanZant made her MMA Hour debut in June. That appearance can be seen below.
