Days after Stephen Thompson was forced to withdraw from UFC 154, his original opponent, Besam Yousef, has also been injured.

Thompson’s replacement, Matt Riddle, has now verbally agreed to meet the UK’s “gypsy jiu-jitsu” specialist John Maguire in the all-new welterweight bout set for Montreal.

With a knee injury sidelining Stephen Thompson from his UFC 154 bout with Besam Yousef, longtime welterweight standout Matt Riddle has answered the call, stepping up to meet the Swedish fighter at the Bell Centre in Montreal on November 17.

Two More Bouts Added to Montreal Event updated September 13
With Fabio Maldonado moving to UFC 153, Chad “The Grave Digger” Griggs has verbally agreed to face Cyrille “The Snake” Diabate in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 154.

Verbal agreements are also in for Darren Elkins to face TUF 14’s Steven Siler on November 17th. Both fighters are looking to break out of the pack by earning a fourth straight win in the featherweight division.

In addition to the long-expected, now-confirmed undisputed welterweight title bout between reigning champion Georges St-Pierre and interim king Carlos Condit, middleweights on the rise will meet as verbal agreements are in for 11-2 Constantinos Philippou versus 13-1 Nick “The Promise” Ring.

Two of Canada’s best lightweight strikers will throw down November 17th as John “The Bull” Makdessi  takes on Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout.

Plus, Ivan Menjivar will return home for his first UFC fight in Quebec as the bantamweight takes on new contender Azamat Gashimov in a surefire shootout.

Cote vs. Sakara Set for Quebec updated August 31
A middleweight matchup that should be a classic has been verbally agreed to as boxer Alessio “Legionarius” Sakara will take on Quebecois kickboxer Patrick “The Predator” Cote at UFC 154 in Montreal.

Verbal agreements are also in for a welterweight bout that night between Sweden’s 6-1 Besam Yousef and South Carolina’s 6-1 Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

Montreal Secures Co-Main Bout updated August 22
The co-main event of UFC 154 on November 17th has been verbally agreed to as top-ranked welterweights Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks and Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann battle it out on the way to a world title shot.

The bout could establish a clear next contender for the welterweight title, with the winner likely earning the right to fight the welterweight king. The title is now held by Georges St-Pierre, who must first face interim champion Carlos Condit when he returns from rehabbing the injury that’s sidelined him since 2011. The St-Pierre-Condit bout is expected to take place late this year.

Montreal Fight Card Begins to Build updated August 20
First announced in March, UFC 154’s Montreal fight card is beginning to fill up as verbal agreements are in for a handful of bouts.

At middleweight, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor will take on France’s Francis “Limitless” Carmont.

At lightweight, two grappling specialists will meet in a chess match between BJJ black belts as Toronto’s Mark Bocek faces Rio’s Rafael Dos Anjos.

In yet another battle between black belts hailing from Canada and Brazil, Ontario’s Antonio Carvalho will face TUF Brasil alum Rodrigo Damm. Both fighters are coming off impressive first-round finishes and looking to make names for themselves in the crowded, talent-rich featherweight division.

Also at featherweight, Canadian kickboxing standout Mark Hominick will go to war with submission specialist Pablo Garza.
