Patricky Freire takes on Saad Awad in Bellator 141 co-main event

Another lightweight contender will emerge for Bellator next month.

Patricky Freire will take on Saad Awad in the co-main event of Bellator 141 on Aug. 28 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif., the promotion announced Thursday.

Freire (13-6), the brother of Bellator featherweight champion Patricio, has won three of his last four fights, but is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Marcin Held last September. “Pitbull” is known as one of the most exciting fighters on the Bellator roster. The 29-year-old Brazilian has compiled a 6-5 record in Bellator.

Awad (18-6) has won three straight and four of his last five fights. The California native owns a victory over current Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks. Awad, 32, beat Brooks in 2013 and Brooks avenged the loss eight months later. The Millennia MMA product is coming off a unanimous decision win over Rob Sinclair in April.

Bellator 141 is headlined by a lightweight bout between UFC veteran Melvin Guillard and Brandon Girtz.
