Jake Paul is in hot water thanks to a stunt he pulled in Puerto Rico.
If you needed more reasons to dislike Jake Paul the unfathomably popular YouTuber and 3-0 boxer just handed you one. According to The Verge Paul is currently being investigated in Puerto Rico for a now-deleted Instagram video that showed him and his posse tearing around a beach in golf carts.
That beach is protected habitat for sea turtles and it is thought that the video was shot during prime nesting season for the animals. It is illegal to use motorized vehicles on protected beaches during this crucial time for the animals.
Rafael Marchango, Puerto Rico’s secretary of natural and environmental resources, has ordered an investigation into Paul and this incident.
“I have ordered an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the use of two motor vehicles on beaches that are presented to be in Puerto Rico,” he said. “Some media have published today a video of the influencer Jake Paul in a motor vehicle on the beach, an activity that is prohibited, apart from law enforcement agencies.
“Although the video does not establish where or when it was carried out, the DNER reminds citizens that this type of activity is prohibited by law to protect the environment and the species that can nest or live on the beaches. Those who violate the law face fines and other penalties, if applicable.”
Since news of the investigation broke sources close to Paul reached out to TMZ (who else?) to say that Paul did not see any signs declaring that the use of motor vehicles was prohibited in this area. The sources further stated that, if he had seen such signs, Paul would never of gone out there. Those sources also said that Paul saw other people using vehicles on the beach before he joined in.
“Jake is a huge animal lover and would never intentionally do anything to harm any species out there,” said TMZ’s source.
Paul and his brother Logan relocated to Puerto Rico earlier this year, buying a $10 million beachfront mansion on the island.
The Paul brothers’ next foray into combat sports comes on June 6 when Logan takes on Floyd Mayweather Jr in what is being billed as an ‘exhibition’.
