Jake Paul secured his tenth boxing victory last night (Sat., July 20, 2024) inside Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla., stopping “The King of Violence,” Mike Perry, via technical knockout (TKO) in the sixth round (see it again here). Afterward, his confidence was sky high because he issued one of his boldest call-outs to date.
During his post-fight victory speech, “El Gallo” called out current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion and former Middleweight title holder, Alex Pereira, to a boxing match.
“Alex Pereira. I’m the king of this, I’m the king of this. Come over, we can make it happen, I want you Alex Pereira,” he said.
At least he’s not calling out Canelo Alvarez.
Upon catching wind of the callout, Pereira and his manager, Ed Soares, hit up Paul while he was in the ring via FaceTime. “El Gallo” entertaining the call for a bit before he hung up on the UFC Light Heavyweight champion of the world.
Pereira recently hinted at his desire to take part in a boxing match after one of the greatest Heavyweight boxers in the game, Anthony Joshua, expressed his desire to see “Poatan” lace up the gloves in the “sweet science.”
Pereira is one of the best strikers in mixed martial arts (MMA), and all he does is “knock everybody out,” Plus, he’s a former K-1 kickboxing champion, so naturally fight fans would be excited at the possibility of seeing him sleep the man once known as “The Problem Child.”
But, as is the norm, Paul is simply calling out fighters he knows he will never realistically fight, unless Pereira — who is coming off another knockout win over Jiri Prochazka — one days gets out of his UFC contract, which won’t be happening anytime soon.
What is realistic for Paul, however, is a fight against Mike Tyson, who was supposed to face the social media influencer last night before health issues forced him out of the fight. The two are scheduled to settle their business on Nov. 15, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. That is, of course, if Tyson — who just turned 58 — actually makes the walk down the ring.
