While Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) still has plenty of business to take care of on “Fight Island” – including tonight’s (Weds., July 15, 2020) UFC on ESPN 13 event – the promotion is starting to fill up its next round of fights for upcoming events.
According to MMA Fighting, Michel Pereira is set to make his return to the Octagon to face Zelim Imadaev in Welterweight action at a yet-to-be-announced Fight Night event on Sept. 5, 2020. Michel is currently on a two-fight losing streak and was last seen getting disqualified against Diego Sanchez last February thanks to an illegal knee (see it again here). Up to that point, Pereira was firmly in control of the bout. Before that loss, the Brazilian bomber was upset by Tristan Connelly at UFC Fight Night 158.
Imadaev, meanwhile, has also lost two straight after getting knocked out by Danny Roberts last November, before dropping a majority decision to Max Griffin at UFC 236. Before his slump began, Imadaev was undefeated (8-0) prior to making his way to compete under the bright lights of UFC.
Also announced for the event is a women’s Flyweight bout that will see Montana De La Rosa face Maryna Moroz. De La Rosa is fresh off a win over Mara Romero Borella this past February at UFC Fight Night 167. Moroz, on the other hand, is enjoying a two-fight win streak after dropping her two bouts before that to former women’s Strawweight champion champion, Carla Esparza, and top 125-pound contender, Angela Hill.
The event will be headlined by a pivotal Heavyweight showdown that will see former title contender, Alistair Overeem, and up-and-coming slugger, Augusto Sakai, throw down in the center of the Octagon.
