The former UFC lightweight champion is cool with his longtime Roufusport teammate Ben Askren.
Things are good between Roufusport fighters Anthony Pettis and Ben Askren, according to Pettis.
On an episode of UFC Embedded prior to his UFC 241 fight with Nate Diaz, Pettis was seen talking to Jorge Masvidal’s teammate Yoel Romero. Pettis said he was happy for Masvidal after “Gamebred” knocked out Askren in five seconds last month at UFC 239.
Askren seemingly felt blindsided by his teammate, taking to social media to express his concerns. Askren said in a tweet Saturday that Pettis’ praise for Masvidal is “unacceptable” and that he thought he and Pettis “had a respect and kinship where feelings and statements like this did not happen.”
Pettis tried to clear the situation up in the comments section of one of his Instagram posts, which followed his unanimous decision loss to Diaz Saturday night in Anaheim. Pettis simply wrote in a comment that he has “no beef with Askren.”
“Wasn’t happy [Askren] got knocked out,” Pettis wrote. “Jorge is my boy, and I was happy for him. This is the fight game. Sh-t happens. Ben is a monster. He will be back.”
Pettis, whose two-fight winning streak was snapped against Diaz, broke his foot in the first round of the co-main event fight. It is unclear at this time when he will be able to return to action.
