Former UFC Flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo has his own statue and it definitely doesn’t look like Barack Obama.
Deiveson Figueiredo has a statue made in his likeness, and unlike Georges St-Pierre — whose statue more closely resembles U.S. President Barack Obama — this one actually looks like the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Men’s Flyweight champion.
Figueiredo (20-2-1) took to Instagram on Wednesday to reveal a newly erect statue of him in his hometown of Soure, a small town located in the Marajo island in Para, Brazil.
“I’m very happy and grateful for the tribute,” Figueiredo captioned the post, translated from Portuguese to English using Google Translate. “Soure [is a] wonderful city, what a love. Thank you for the affection of the Marajoara people, always giving me affection and encouraging me to be at the top of MMA, I’m very happy, very very!”
The mayor of Soure had previously promised to erect a Rocky Balboa-like structure of the former UFC champion in the city.
“That idea is getting traction here,” Figueiredo said in July (h/t MMA Fighting). “The mayor said I’m getting a Rocky-style statue. Man, that’s awesome. That’s another dream of mine coming to fruition. I’ve always told my brother I’d love to have a statue in my hometown, and now I’m getting it after winning the belt.”
Figueiredo last fought at UFC 263 in a failed attempt to defend his UFC flyweight title against Brandon Moreno.
