Sherdog
Wanderlei Silva was recently hospitalized after he was hit by a car in Curitiba, Brazil while he was taking a leisurely stroll in his bicycle. As a result of the accident — the second one like it in four years — “The Axe Murderer” spoke to Sherdog and offered up some photographic evidence of the damage.
Aside from his foot injury, Silva suffered severe damage to his right eye and cheek after the impact sent him flying out of his bicycle and into the pavement. Wanderlie — who was wearing a helmet — detailed the near-death experience.
“My life was saved by the helmet for the second time. I suffered a similar accident in 2016 but this time at least the car driver didn’t run away. He stopped to help me,” said the former PRIDE FC Middleweight champion.
“The first one was green,” he said of the two stop lights he was trying to navigate when the accident happened. “But I cannot [be sure] if the second turned red in the process.”
In 2012, Silva tragically lost his father after he was involved in a horrific car accident in Brazil.
Silva’s accident comes on the heels of the news that he could be in line to face off against boxing legend, Mike Tyson, in a bare knuckle fight under the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships (BKFC) banner.
Those potential plans will obviously be put on ice, as “The Axe Murderer” will need some time to heal from his injuries, which could have been a lot worse had he not been wearing his protective gear.
