UFC Fight Night: Perry v Gall

“Platinum” Mike Perry has had an extremely quiet August for someone whose summer has been plagued by all sorts of scandals that may still very well cost him his UFC career. Following a win against Mickey Gall that snapped a 2 fight losing streak (and brought him to .500 at 3-3 over the past two years), “Platinum” squandered his forward momentum by getting into a fist fight at a restaurant that saw an elderly man knocked out and Perry up on charges.

Then he decided the entire world of MMA was against him and got real aggro on social media. All this was capped off by his former girlfriend / corner “The Platinum Princess” Danielle Nickerson implying a tell all about their tumultuous relationship was coming, saying “What happened is not okay.” We’re still waiting for that shoe to drop.

In a public apology from Perry to the UFC via Twitter, Perry vowed to do better and has managed to largely avoid negative headlines for the past month. Maybe part of that involves having somebody babysitting his socials to keep things bland, because he recently re-posted this amusing graphic from a member of his ‘Platinum Nation’ fan club before deleting it.

Death threats sometimes get the UFC’s panties in a wad so better safe than sorry, we suppose.

Perry’s ‘Make A Death Wish Foundation’ nominees include Darren Till (no surprise there), Niko Price, Nicolas Dalby, Daniel Rodriguez, Emil Meek, Michel Pereira, Mounir Lazzes, and … Khamzat Chimaev? Ooh, we don’t know about that one, Mike.

And he better watch out because the Russians are taking Perry’s smack seriously, with Russian outlet RT stoking the fires with a headline reading “‘Russians really talk like this’: UFC’s Mike Perry MOCKS Khabib’s nation before naming eight ‘mentally ill’ rivals he would ‘KILL’

How about win or lose we get Michel Pereira in with Perry following his fight on September 5th against Zelim Imadaev. Of course, this is conditional on “Platinum” getting the OK from the UFC to fight again, which in turn is conditional on Perry completing an alcohol abuse program.

In another Instagram he didn’t delete, Perry shared a small update on that.

“No fights to promote currently,” he wrote. “I’ve had a couple sessions with a Dr. to make the proper adjustments towards the future. My girl makes me so happy so I just love to show her off ! Thanks to the fans who show us support! We comin back stronger than ever!”

What do you think, Maniacs? Excited for the return of “Platinum” Perry or has his underdog story gone a bit too gong show for you?
