Dustin Poirier appears to be angling for a fight with Nate Diaz.
After beating Conor McGregor twice this year Dustin Poirier is in prime position to fight Charles Oliveira for the UFC lightweight title. However, it appears that ‘Diamond’ has other things on his mind.
It’s no secret that Poirier is interested in fighting Nate Diaz. He’s on record discussing his desire for a ‘fun fight’ with Diaz and his willingness to go up in weight to make it happen. The pair were supposed to meet back in 2018 until a hip injury ruled Poirier out.
Poirier took to Twitter yesterday and attempted to summon one of the 209’s finest, possibly with hopes of crafting a new match-up between them.
Nathan?

His short post of “Nathan?” met a quick response. With Diaz writing, “Let’s fight don’t be scared this time tho.”

Diaz is coming off back-to-back losses for the fourth time in his pro career. He’s never lost three in a row. His most recent defeats were to Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal. The Edwards fight resulted in a unanimous decision, despite Diaz rocking Edwards in the fifth round. The Masvidal loss was due to a doctor’s stoppage for a cut.
Diaz’s last win was a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Pettis in 2019. Prior to that he took a 1-1 series against McGregor, famously submitting the Irishman in March of 2016 before losing a split decision five months later.
Poirier has won eight of his last ten fights. The only blemishes on his recent record are a no contest to Eddie Alvarez (who Poirier TKO’d the next time they met) and a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight title. During this run, in addition to handing McGregor two losses, Poirier has also defeated Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway and Dan Hooker.
