Did Conor win his trilogy match with Poirier? Find out below!

The highly-anticipated rubber match between former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim Lightweight champion and No. 1-ranked contender, Dustin Poirier, and former two-division roost ruler and No. 5-seeded Conor McGregor takes place tonight (Sat., July 10, 2021) from inside a sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

McGregor is more than eager to avenge his technical knockout loss at UFC 257 earlier this year (watch it) to demonstrate that he is still one of the best in the world. Poirier — who McGregor stopped at UFC 178 seven years ago — wants to leave zero doubt who the better fighter is and, at the same time, cement himself as next in line for the 155-pound belt.

Something has got to give! And we are about to find out exactly what as the two talented strikers step inside the cage for a blockbuster pay-per-view (PPV) trilogy main event that is scheduled for five, five-minute rounds.

Live updates will begin to flow below the moment the two fighters make their way to the Octagon …

McGregor was the first to make his trademark walk to the cage to a mix of Foggy Dew and Hypnotize, which the crowd ate up entirely:

And then it was Poirier’s turn … a little but more subdued but exciting nonetheless:

Round one:

Both fighters refused to touch gloves — perhaps it has something to do with all that trash talk McGregor was spewing about Poirier’s wife. Nevertheless, Conor came out the aggressor, uncorking two side kicks and aa low kick, then a left hand as Poirier struggled to get going early. Poirier finally launched a big left hook that had Conor backpedaling. Conor continued to strafe the lower half, with Poirier focusing upstairs with a nasty lefthand and some other shots that appeared to buzz thew Irishman. Poirier pressed him up against the cage and Conor was able to get a guillotine choke sunk in while standing. It looked precarious for a few seconds, but Poirier eventually worked his neck free and began to unload with ground and pound from the top with two minutes remaining in the round. Conor delivered some sharp elbows from the bottom, with Poirier responding in-kind after a minor adjustment. Poirier continued to bomb Conor from the top, with Conor trying to kick him off. Conor landed a nice upkick, but Poirier continued his ground-and-pound onslaught. Conor tried another guillotine to slow down the furious pace, but Poirier let him back to his feet. And he took a weird step in the final exchange and sat down almost immediately, suffering a broken what appears to be a broken ankle.

Final Result: Poirier defeats McGregor via technical knockout in round one (injury)
