Dustin Poirier talks about his cancelled fight with Nate Diaz and his plans for the future.
Last November, top-three lightweight talent Dustin Poirier was expected to lock horns with Nate Diaz in the UFC 230 co-main event at Madison Square Garden, New York.
Poirier, however, was forced out of the bout after suffering a hip injury in training. It was reported that the fight was scrapped due to Poirier’s injury but, according to ‘The Diamond’, Diaz had already withdrew from the PPV beforehand.
He pulled out before my hip was injured. The fight wasn’t happening. https://t.co/NJMt2EpbNc

In a further series of tweets, Poirier staked his claim for a title shot but said that he is willing to fight anyone for the right price.
I’m ready just waiting to see what the boss wants to do https://t.co/Q8ifmjO86Z

Yep!! Honestly I’d fight anyone if the price is right https://t.co/Aiju4fXFYT

I want a shot at gold. I’ll do anything it takes to get it but I’m a prize fighter if the prize is right I’ll fight anyone.
I’ve been in Florida for a few weeks working on my craft. Hopefully in the next week I get something booked

Although Poirier fully embraces his role as a ‘prize fighter’, the 30-year-old ruled out any talk of a return to the featherweight division to challenge Max Holloway for the 145 lbs. title.
I have a lot of respect for Max. It would be a fun fight but I will never fight at 145lbs again. https://t.co/Zfhdhv5e55

Since moving to the lightweight division in 2015, Poirier has gone 8-1 (1 NC) and established himself as one of the most driven contenders in the division. The Florida-based fighter is currently on a three-fight win streak against three former champions in Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez. Poirier finished all three bouts via TKO and has only gone to decision twice in the last four years.
If what Poirier says about Diaz is true, the American Top Team product could go on to face Tony Ferguson in a number one contender’s bout instead.
