Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight contender, Santiago Ponzinibbio, wants to clean out the 170-pound division en route to a future title shot. I’d say the Argentinian is off to a pretty good start, considering he’s won seven straight with four knockout finishes.
“Gente Boa” is currently ranked No. 7 in the division, one spot behind former champion, Robbie Lawler, and two places away from ex-lightweight kingpin, Rafael dos Anjos. Considering “Ruthless” is already booked for UFC 235, that leaves the Brazilian as the next in line.
Assuming he’s not too “scared” to sign the contract.
”He says that on Twitter, but the truth is he doesn’t want to fight me,” Ponzinibbio told MMA Fighting. “He’s scared. It makes me want to beat him up even more because he says he’s in, but then turns it down to the matchmakers. He’s running from the fight. He’s scared. That pisses me off because he says something, but acts differently. Let’s see if he really wants to fight me or if he’s just talk. If he agrees to another fight, it’s pretty clear he’s scared to fight me.”
Ponzinibbio (27-3) is fresh off his fourth-round destruction of Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night 140 last November, which followed back-to-back wins over ranked welterweight opponents Mike Perry and Gunnar Nelson.
As for Dos Anjos (28-11), he jumped out to a three-fight win streak after abandoning the lightweight division, but has since been out-wrestled in consecutive losses to Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman.
Ponzinibbio vs. Dos Santos … who wants it?
