The last time Phil Baroni saw the inside of the Octagon, a losing effort against Brad Tavares at UFC 125 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mike Perry was just a 19 year-old kid who was still a year removed from his amateur MMA debut.
That hasn’t stopped the combat sports community from drawing comparisons between the two musclebound sluggers, particularly in the wake of Perry’s win over Mickey Gall at UFC on ESPN 12 last weekend in “Sin City.”
A comparison that is perhaps unwelcome in the Baroni camp.
“I’d KO him now,” the still-jacked Baroni wrote on Twitter. “He’s a very poor-man’s version of me.”
The 44 year-old Baroni (16-19) is still an active fighter, having recently competed at Rebel FC 9 “Return of the Champion” last September. The “New York Bad Ass” also scored a knockout finish over Matt Lagler at King of the Cage back in early 2018.
Perry (14-6) has yet to respond.
