Here’s more proof Jorge Masvidal’s camp executed its gameplan perfectly against Ben Askren.
American Top Team (ATT) is undisputedly one of the best camps in the world and one of its key assets is coach Mike Brown, a former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champion and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight force. While Brown hasn’t officially retired from fighting himself, he’s quickly built up his reputation helping his ATT teammates pull off big wins, including Jorge Masvidal over Ben Askren at UFC 239 last night (Sat., July 6, 2019).
Masvidal hit Askren with a huge flying knee right off the bell, scoring the fastest knockout win in UFC history at five seconds (watch it here). Afterward, top-ranked Lightweight contender Dustin Poirier revealed that Brown and Masvidal had been telling select people what they had planned for the fight.
Mike brown and masvidal told me last night at dinner he was gonna Start this fight with a flying knee and showed me video on Mike’s phone of him practicing

Now, Brown has taken to Instagram to share that footage Poirier was shown of Masvidal drilling that flying knee opener over-and-over-and-over again.
”Calculated killer!” Brown wrote. “48 hours before UFC 239, Gamebred Fighter drilling the famous Paulino Hernandez flying knee. Fastest KO in UFC history.”
Hernandez is the Muay Thai coach at ATT and the one Brown credits with perfecting the move. And what a move it was. Great job, team. We imagine Masvidal’s next opponent is going to drill not ducking his head down if Jorge comes charging at him in his next fight!
