Michel Prazeres still wishes to go back to the lightweight division, even after defeating Zak Cummings at welterweight.
Michel Prazeres does not feel like sticking around at the welterweight division. Even though the Brazilian managed to score a split decision win over a much larger opponent, Zak Cummings, ‘Trator’ would like to go back to the lightweight division despite having missed weight three times before.
Although Prazeres told Combate that he felt good during the fight and didn’t have much of a hard time with his size and reach disadvantage against Cummings, he still wishes to go back to the lighter division and expects a response from the UFC in the next few days.
“I liked the fight. My opponent will always have a bigger reach. Even at lightweight, I was always smaller than everyone else. So the reach didn’t really get to me, I’m used to that. I think I fought a good fight, but I’ll try to return to lightweight. I didn’t feel anything different at welterweight, I just want go back to my winning streak at lightweight. My manager talked with the UFC and they’ll give me an answer this week. Welterweight is too convoluted.”
Before facing Zak Cummings at UFC Fight Night 129, Michel Prazeres (25-2) was on six-fight winning streak at lightweight. During that run, Trator defeated the likes Desmond Green, Josh Burkman and Gilbert Burns, among others. The Brazilian also had his UFC debut at welterweight, in a fight he lost to Paulo Thiago via unanimous decision.
