Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will give top featherweight contender Brian Ortega the chance to steal Frankie Edgar’s 145-pound title shot when the promotion airs its UFC 222 pay-per-view (PPV) event later tonight (Sat., March 3, 2018) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Edgar (22-5-1) was initially set to face current featherweight champion Max Holloway in the headlining spot before “Blessed” was bounced from the card with an unfortunate injury. “The Answer” vowed to stay on the card regardless, and thankfully “T-City” stepped up to face the former Lightweight champion on short notice.
Ortega (13-0, 1 NC) was last seen choking the life out of Cub Swanson at UFC Fight Night 123 back in December, picking up his thirteenth straight win. This fight will undoubtedly crown a No. 1 contender to Holloway’s strap, which means it’s a huge risk for Edgar, as he already had his title shot locked in the bag.
