58-year-old Riddick Bowe will not be fighting on October 2.

Combat sports fans can breathe a tiny sigh of relief now that one of the most egregious ‘legends fights’ on the calendar has been scrapped. Yesterday Official Celebrity Boxing revealed they had pulled 58-year-old Riddick Bowe from his scheduled bout with ex-NBA player Lamar Odom.

In a tweet it was claimed that Bowe had been removed from the match-up due to “backlash” and the promotion being “mislead” by Bowes’ management team over Bowes’ health. Bowe is apparently still going to be at the event that is scheduled for October 2 in Miami, FL. A new opponent is being sought for Odom.

This news comes shortly after training footage of Bowe hit the internet. That video showed the former undisputed heavyweight world champion moving slowly around a gym, clearly in no shape to fight a man 17-years his junior.

Odom, a two-time NBA champion, debuted in the boxing ring this June. In his first fight he obliterated former pop star Aaron Carter, finishing him by second round KO.

The current co-main event for the Odom vs. TBA card is ex-pro boxer (and one time BKFC competitor) Paulie Malignaggi vs. Corey B (a Tik Tok star, apparently).
