Jon Jones scored a unanimous decision against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247, but professional fighters had some mixed feelings about the call on Twitter.
Dominick Reyes came close, but no cigar.
In what seemed like a performance good enough to become the new light heavyweight champion, the ‘Devastator’ still came up short against Jon Jones, losing a unanimous decision after five rounds at UFC 247, in Houston, Texas. On Twitter, pro fighters were not too happy about the call.
Best in the light heavyweight division will fight tonight. May the best man win! #TEAMREYES @ufc #UFC247

Jon Jones coming up. Mma hasn’t seen dominance like such . He has beaten himself many times . No man has solved the puzzle. Here we go #UFC247
— Derek Brunson (@DerekBrunson) February 9, 2020
Who you got!? I’m hoping Reyes can pull this off
— Randa Markos (@randamma) February 9, 2020
So same height but Jones’ reach is like ten inches longer #ufc247
— Tatiana Suarez (@tatianaufc) February 9, 2020
Best shape I’ve seen @JonnyBones ever. #UFC247
— Tito Ortiz (@titoortiz) February 9, 2020
If Jones keeps throwing a the teep to the body Reyes is going to be hurting after the 5th especially considering he threw everything but the kitchen sink that round #UFC247
— Tatiana Suarez (@tatianaufc) February 9, 2020
Jones down 2-0. Let’s see if Reyes has the gas tank to keep this going #UFC247
— Mike Trizano (@TheLoneWolfMMA) February 9, 2020
Reyes looks amazing. Needs to pace himself though. #experience
— michael (@bisping) February 9, 2020
I got Reyes 2 rounds. Great round by both fighters. Reyes chopping at that front leg of Jones. Jones throwing hard body kicks. Let’s hope Reyes keeps that left hand up. #UFC247
— Tatiana Suarez (@tatianaufc) February 9, 2020
Can reyes keep this up? Hes definitely stepping up
— Sodiq Yusuff (@Super_Sodiq) February 9, 2020
I have it 2-1 for Reyes #UFC247
— Justin Gaethje (@Justin_Gaethje) February 9, 2020
3-0, great pressure by jones, Reyes doing a good job of controlling the action when they engage
— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) February 9, 2020
Unbelievable takedown dedence
— michael (@bisping) February 9, 2020
I might be a victim of the moment but I feel like Reyes is up 3. Am I tripping?
— Sodiq Yusuff (@Super_Sodiq) February 9, 2020
WOW, that wrestling sequence from Reyes!!!! Dude is a beast! #UFC247
— Brad Tavares (@BradTavares) February 9, 2020
I can’t call it!! Who is winning?!?! So close!! You gotta beat the champ! #UFC247
— Aljamain Sterling (@funkmasterMMA) February 9, 2020
Reyes is exhausted and Jones is taking over, but Reyes fires back enough to slow Jones’s mental momentum. Jones has to finish him this round to win.
— michael (@bisping) February 9, 2020
I am gonna say it’s tied right now 2-2. Let’s see who wants it more. #UFC247
— Mike Trizano (@TheLoneWolfMMA) February 9, 2020
I feel like if Jones doesn’t get a finish we’re gonna hear #AndNew #UFC247
— Gerald Meerschaert (@The_Real_GM3) February 9, 2020
I got 3-2 Jon Jones
— James Vick (@JamesVickMMA) February 9, 2020
AndNEW!!!!!! #UFC247
— Tito Ortiz (@titoortiz) February 9, 2020
Close fight. I see it 3-2 but wouldn’t be surprised if it went the other way!
— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) February 9, 2020
My initial feeling here is Reyes won this fight I might have to rewatch this one
— Eddie Alvarez (@Ealvarezfight) February 9, 2020
UNANIMOUS? Never go back to Houston @ufc that’s all I’m sayin #UFC247
— Mike Trizano (@TheLoneWolfMMA) February 9, 2020
OMG WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!!!
— Sam Alvey (@smilensam) February 9, 2020

— Gerald Harris (@GHurricane) February 9, 2020

— Jessica Eye (@jessicaevileye) February 9, 2020
49-46 Jones? #ufc247 #nojudges
— Max Griffin (@MaxPainGriffin) February 9, 2020
I don’t agree with the scoring. But I knew I could’ve went either way.#UFC247
— Corey Anderson UFC (@CoreyA_MMA) February 9, 2020
Not robbery. Close fight, could have gone either way. 3-1 or 2-2 going into 5th. I thought 3-2 Reyes but the fight was so close it could have gone either way.
— Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) February 9, 2020
Not sure about the score cards . They awarded pressure tonight . What scores more PRESSURE or point strikes ? There’s is no concrete answer . We need a standard judging system! #UFC247
— Derek Brunson (@DerekBrunson) February 9, 2020
I had Reyes in the first three rounds. Credit to Jones on coming on strong 4th and 5th but I would of guessed Reyes won that fight on scorecards.
— Chris Weidman (@chrisweidman) February 9, 2020
The decisions tonight were all wrong . They need vet fighters to become judges for our sport
— Eddie Alvarez (@Ealvarezfight) February 9, 2020
This is embarrassing for the sport.
— Sam Alvey (@smilensam) February 9, 2020
Surprised, but it was close so u cant be mad. 49 46 a bit wild but great fight
— Sodiq Yusuff (@Super_Sodiq) February 9, 2020
THIS IS FUCKING BS WOW. REALLY? WTF
— Manny Gamburyan (@MannyGamburyan) February 9, 2020
Not a fan of the decision… best I can get behind is 3-2 Jones #UFC247
— Zachary Makovsky (@ZachFunSize) February 9, 2020
Booooooooo!!!!! #ufc247
— Tito Ortiz (@titoortiz) February 9, 2020
OMG! What a wonderful performance for Reyes?! #UFC247
— Francis Ngannou (@francis_ngannou) February 9, 2020
Wow @ufc like you couldn’t seem more corrupt! Jon Jones did NOT win that fight. 3 rounds to 2, for Reyes and that can’t be argued! TRASH! You stole that from the man the earned it. Terrible!
