Ronda Rousey is a UFC fighter. Strikeforce’s death is imminent. If there’s a more dramatic way to disrupt a lazy Thursday night, I don’t know what it would be.
While the announcement is still fresh, this much is obvious: the mixed martial arts landscape just underwent a vast transformation. With Ronda Rousey and her sisters in arms finally gaining equal footing as the men, and the slew of remaining Strikeforce stars inevitably joining their Zuffa brethren, the stage is set for the UFC to have a monstrous 2013 campaign.
There’s plenty of time to pick, prod and try to figure out what this all means. But in a moment like this, when history is unfolding in front of our eyes, often the knee-jerk reactions are the most telling.
