Former UFC heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub recently joined UFC commentator Joe Rogan on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, for a fight companion for this past weekend’s UFC Hidalgo card.
During their conversation Schaub mentioned he ran into none other than the Stockton Strangler himself, Nate Diaz, at a Whole Foods market.
The co-host of The Fighter & The Kid podcast stated that Diaz confided in him that the knock downs that occurred at the hands of UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor in their UFC 202 welterweight bout were a purposeful ploy to get the Irishman to the ground with him:
“I saw Nate at the grocery store randomly, he said he was falling on purpose to dupe Conor. He says ‘I know the first three rounds, he’s so fast and he will be tough, so when he hit me, the plan was to fall down to get him to follow me down.’ He says ‘I couldn’t take him down, so the plan was to get me follow me down there.’”
“That’s a risky game plan, but that’s from the horse’s mouth,” Schaub said (courtesy of The Bloody Elbow).
“Is that one of those ‘I meant to do that’ things?” Rogan replied.
“I don’t know. I don’t know Nate Diaz enough to be like ‘are you serious?’”
An interesting game-plan if Diaz’s words to Schaub are in fact true. You can check out some of the knock downs in the video below:
