Rampage Jackson says he prefers a fight with retired legend Mirko Cro Cop over a rematch with King Mo Lawal.
Over the weekend, it was announced that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will be facing Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in a rematch at Bellator 175 on March 31st. But apparently, it was not something that the former UFC light heavyweight champion had in mind.
Rampage says he was actually offered a fight against now retired MMA legend Mirko Cro Cop. While no specifics of the offer have been laid out, Jackson believes it was a fight that could have been more attractive for fans.
“I think that would have been a better fight for the fans,” Rampage told Ariel Helwani during Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting). “I think Cro Cop would have been a more exciting fight. ‘King Mo’ is just gonna try to get my legs pregnant.”
The first time the two men fought was in 2014, where Rampage won by unanimous decision. Yet, despite the result, Lawal maintains that he should have been given the victory. This had made Rampage ask for a rematch, a decision he now regrets.
“The thing that really f—ks me up is that he thinks he won the last fight. How did you win that fight? He never hurt me at all. When he took me down, he laid on top of me and I got up.”
“I shouldn’t have asked for a rematch. I watched it again and It was a boring-ass fight and I don’t like to do boring fights. But since it’s my last fight on Bellator, I’m gonna have to do what it takes to win.”
Bellator 175 is slated to take place at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
