Former flyweight title challenger Ray Borg will return to bantamweight.
A fight that is likely to be high-paced and very entertaining is on tap for next month’s slate of UFC cards.
The Sports Daily first reported that former UFC flyweight title challenger Ray Borg will take on Ricky Simon in a bantamweight matchup on Wednesday, May 13th. Both fighters have since confirmed the booking on social media.
Borg (13-4) is on a two-fight winning streak, having recently bested Rogerio Bontorin at UFC Rio Rancho in February. However, his attempt to return to flyweight ended in another weight miss, which has been a recurring problem for him. Borg has even missed weight at 135 lbs, coming in at 137 lbs for his loss to Casey Kenney in March of 2019.
Simon (15-3) is known for his high-energy, fan-friendly fighting style, but he’s in need of a win. After a TKO loss to Urijah Faber, Simon dropped a decision to Rob Font at UFC on ESPN in Washington DC this past December, but did receiver Fight of the Night honors. His last win came via decision against Rani Yahya at UFC 234 in Australia.
The UFC’s May 13th show is slated for VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. Light heavyweights Glover Teixeira and Anthony Smith are slated to serve as the night’s main event. ESPN+ and/or ESPN will broadcast the card.
