While a marquee lightweight matchup between champion Eddie Alvarez and Roger Huerta certainly came with buzz, it did not qualify for title-fight status at Bellator 33.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney told MMAjunkie.com that the integrity of the promotion’s tournament format is more important than individual superfights.

“Until they drag me out of this office kicking and screaming, guys will earn the right to become champion of this organization,” Rebney said.
