Today would mark the 72nds birthday of martial arts icon Bruce Lee, born Lee Jun-fan on 27 November 1940, making today a milestone in the legacy that is the ‘Dragon.’
The founder of Jeet Kune Do was born in San Francisco in 1940, and according to his Wikipedia page, was born in the hour and the year of the Dragon. Lee would go on to found the Jun Fan Gung Fu (literally Bruce Lee’s Kung Fu) academy and the philosophy behind Jeet Kun Do.
The icon would find success in television in America and then on the big screen with such films as ‘The Big Boss,’ ‘Return of the Dragon,’ and ‘Enter the Dragon’ which was released posthumously.
Lee died of a cerebral edema on 20 July 1973 at the age of 32.
And according to his daughter Shannon Lee, “Let’s face it, he was cool.”
“He had style, he would talk really cool, and he was this quintessential 70’s guy. But if you want to go a little deeper, you see the philosophies he had, all the amazing things he said, and there are so many layers to him. He was so far ahead of his time, so you can look at him with today’s eyes and he’s still relevant.”
