[CW: The following article details reports of sexual assault]
According to NewsS4SA Jose A. Rodriguez Chucuan, 42, was arrested in San Antonio, TX last week and is now facing charges of sexual assault. PW Insider reports that Chucuan is the same person who wrestled under the name Alberto del Rio for the WWE between 2008 and 2014.
Chucuan was arrested after a woman reported to police that she had been assaulted and had suffered multiple injuries.
The woman claimed that Chucuan had gotten angry and slapped her across the head twice. The woman also claimed that Chucuan threatened to take her son and drop him in the middle of the road if she did not wear a dress and dance for him.
NewsS4SA reported that, in an arrest affidavit, the woman also accused Chucuan of sexually assaulting her. The affidavit reportedly states that photographs were taken of the woman’s injuries.
PW Insider reports that Chucuan was arrested on Saturday morning and released on $5,000 bond later that day.
Chucuan, who has wrestled under the name Dos Caras and Alberto El Patron, was fired from the WWE on August 7, 2014 due to ‘unprofessional conduct and altercation with an employee’ (per a WWE news release).
After his firing Chucuan wrestled for AAA, Ring of Honor and Lucha Underground. He briefly returned to the WWE in 2015. In 2016 he was suspended by the WWE for violation of the company’s wellness policy. Soon after his suspension Chucuan opted out of his WWE contract and returned to the independent wrestling circuit.
Last December Chucuan fought Tito Ortiz in an MMA fight at Combate Americas 51: Tito vs. Alberto. He lost that fight via first round submission. Since 2001 Chucuan has amassed a professional MMA record of 9-6.
