Report: Almeida vs. Garbrandt to headline May UFC show in Vegas

It appears that a battle of top undefeated bantamweight prospects will serve as the main event for a May 29th show in Las Vegas.

The May 29th UFC Fight Night show in Las Vegas apparently has a main event, and it’s a doozy. The headliner will likely feature two of the best prospects in the 135-pound division, with the winner probably right in the mix for a title shot. MMA Junkie’s John Morgan tweeted the report of Thomas Almeida vs. Cody Garbrandt:

Almeida (20-0, 4-0 UFC) is coming off a knockout win over Anthony Birchak in November. He has finished three of his four wins in the UFC and won a bonus for every one of those four fights.

Garbrandt (8-0, 3-0 UFC) took on late replacement Augusto Mendes in a catchweight fight in his last trip to the octagon, winning by TKO in the first round. The Team Alpha Male product also holds wins over Henry Briones and Marcus Brimage.

The only other announced bout for the card thus far will see former bantamweight champ Renan Barao move to featherweight to take on Jeremy Stephens.
