According to a report, Anthony Johnson is out of his highly anticipated fight against Glover Teixeira at UFC on FOX 20 due to undisclosed reasons.
Former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Johnson is out of his highly-anticipated scrap with fellow top contender Glover Teixeira according to a Saturday report from MMAFighting.com. UFC officials have not confirmed the news at this time.
Rumble vs. Teixeira was scheduled for the UFC on FOX 20 co-main event in July.
No details have been released at this time regarding the reasoning of Johnson’s withdrawal from his upcoming contest against the Brazilian. It is unclear whether or not the UFC will seek a replacement to fight Teixiera, and if so, who that replacement would be, per the report.
Johnson (21-5) has picked up five wins since returning to the Octagon against Phil Davis in April 2014, including knockouts over Alexander Gustafsson and Ryan Bader. His only loss over the past two years was to Daniel Cormier in a vacant title fight in the main event of UFC 187 last year.
Teixeira (25-4) is riding an impressive three-fight winning streak since dropping back-to-back losses to then-titleholder Jon Jones and the aforementioned Davis. In his most recent outing, he knocked out former champion Rashad Evans in the first round of their UFC on FOX 19 headliner.
UFC on FOX 20 takes place live from the United Center in Chicago, IL on July 23. In the main event, former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm rebounds against Valentina Shevchenko.
