Heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Derrick Lewis will duke it out in October.
Former heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum will take on slugger Derrick Lewis as Combate and MMA Fighting reported the pair will clash at UFC 216 in October. The event’s main card is set to air live on pay-per-view.
40-year-old Fabricio Werdum dropped a majority decision loss in his rubber-match against Alistair Overeem at UFC 213 in July. Before that, he defeated Travis Browne by unanimous decision, bouncing back from his May 2016 loss to Stipe Miocic, who knocked him out in round 1 of their UFC 198 main event and became the new heavyweight champion.
Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis was on a six-fight winning streak, with five knockouts and wins over the likes of Roy Nelson, Gabriel Gonzaga and Travis Browne until he was stopped via fourth-round TKO by Mark Hunt in June. This is Lewis’ first fight since the loss, after which he contemplated retirement, before deciding otherwise.
An interim lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee will also take place on the same card, but it’s not yet established as the official main event.
